Designed to encourage immigration from a diverse pool of people/cultures from across the globe, the US Congress uses the Diversity Visa Program to allow 50,000 people to apply for permanent resident visas on an annual basis. Lottery “winners” are chosen through a random computer generated list, drawn from the correct entries of applicants from countries with relatively low immigration to the US.

How we can help:
We can advise you whether you are eligible to enter the DV lottery, notify you of the (short!) window when applications will be accepted and assist with the on-line application, which requires total accuracy and digitally scanned photographs matching exacting specifications. If you are travelling or move home frequently we can also act as a point of contact/address for notification should your application be successful. We can also assist with the complex adjustment of status or Consular processing of your immigrant visa application.

Further information on the Diversity Visa Program:

In order to qualify for entry to the DV lottery you must be a native of a list of countries Congress mandates as eligible for participation. This list of countries is revised on an annual basis after an assessment of immigrant visas issued in previous years, to identify countries with low rates of legal immigration to the US.

In addition to being deemed a native of an eligible participant country, you must be educated to a certain level, i.e. have a high school education or its equivalent (this is defined as the successful completion of at least twelve years of combined elementary and secondary education OR two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years of training or experience to perform).

Finally, note that success in the initial stages of the lottery does not guarantee you a “green card”. More winners are drawn and notified than the number of actual visas / green cards available. Winners must act quickly for the best chance of successfully processing their immigrant visa or adjustment of status applications.
