Entry of skilled persons to Australia, both temporary and permanent, is a very high priority for the Australian Government given the strong economy and current skills shortage. It was recently announced that permanent skilled migration will make up 133,500 out of a total of 190,300 places in the overall migration program for 2008-09, a record increase. This focus on skilled migration creates opportunity for those wishing to migrate to Australia.

The Australian Government is also heavily focused on temporary skilled migration, with 100,000 visas expected to be granted annually in future. Skilled workers are also being encouraged to take up employment in regional areas. As a result of this, criteria for regional visas are slightly less stringent. There are also state government sponsored options for certain visa categories.

Sometimes it may be necessary to work with a registered migration agent based in Australia. However, where this assistance is required, we continue to handle everything on behalf of the client so that there is just one point of contact.

It is important to note that for almost all visa applications, applicants must pass health and character requirements.
