Australia’s excellent education system, world class universities, mild climate, safe environment and relatively inexpensive living costs make it a country with one of the largest foreign student populations in the world.

To be eligible to apply under the student category, it is necessary to be enrolled in a full-time course at an institution which is registered with the Australian Government to offer courses to overseas students. Applicants must also be able to prove they can meet the cost of living without working or recourse to public funds.

How we can help:

We can advise with regard to whether or not this type of visa is appropriate. Once this has been established we can handle every aspect of the application process, with a view to making it as streamlined and stress-free as possible. This will include preparation of the relevant application forms, collation of the required supporting documentation and liaison with the authorities. Citizenship

There are several different types of student visa based on the level of study:

  • Intensive English language tuition
  • Schools
  • Vocational Education and Training
  • Degree and Higher education
  • Doctorates
  • Non award
  • AusAid and Defence

Within each subclass the criteria applicants are assessed against depends on their nationality. Assessment level 1 represents the lowest assessment level (document requirements are minimal) and assessment level 4 the highest (a lot of supporting documentation needs to be provided). The assessment level for a national of a particular country can vary, depending on which student visa is being applied for. Applicants intending to study in Australia who are assessment level 2, 3, or 4 must apply from outside Australia.

All assessment level 1 applicants have the option of applying online; however most assessment level 2, 3 and 4 applicants don’t have this option and must lodge their application by hand or post.

Part-time employment

Permission for all students to work 20 hours per week is granted along with grant of the initial student visa. Work rights for the dependants of students varies with the type of student visa granted.
